A body has been found in the month-long search for a 19-year-old kayaker who went missing off the coast of Northumberland.
Michael Henry, from Rothbury, is thought to have died after the two-man kayak he was in capsized near Boulmer on July 7. The other man on board managed to swim to a buoy and was rescued by the Coastguard.
Despite extensive search efforts, the search was called off on July 15, and Michael was presumed dead.
Body recovered off Blyth
Northumbria Police have confirmed that a body was recovered from the water off the coast of Blyth on July 26. Formal identification has taken place, and a report has been prepared for the coroner.
Michael's family had previously paid tribute to him, describing him as a "marvellous person". In a statement on July 15, they said: "We would like to thank everyone for all their love, kindness and support now and throughout Michael's life; it was that love and kindness that made him the marvellous person he was."
"Michael was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, team-mate and friend; a keen sportsman who loved the outdoors. Michael was preparing to go travelling this summer and hoping to start university next academic year."
"Michael will be forever in our thoughts, and we will miss him. Our thanks go to the emergency services and everyone who is helping to search for Michael."
