Residents in Bury were woken in the early hours of Monday, July 13, after a helicopter and armed police swooped on Gigg Lane in the Fishpool area. Armed officers and multiple police vehicles attended the scene, and suspects were seen in handcuffs following the incident.

Residents Report Police Chase and Helicopter

Residents reported seeing a 'police chase' along with officers and sniffer dogs at around 8am. One resident commented on social media: "There was a helicopter at 6am in the area? It was so low." Another resident, who asked not to be named, told the M.E.N: "I noticed a police car outside. It was calm when I opened my front door just after 7am. There were two armed officers stood outside my gate with a man in cuffs."

"Another man opposite was in cuffs and another on the other corner also in cuffs. There was an Audi in the road. The three males were taken away in separate vans and two police officers and a dog van remained on Gigg Lane when I left for work."

Social Media Posts Capture the Scene

A video posted on Facebook was captioned: "Waking up to this. Armed police and three in cuffs." Another resident responded: "That explains the five police cars, an undercover one that flew past me on the way to work and the police helicopter circling at six this morning."

Police Confirm Arrests for Burglary

Greater Manchester Police confirmed they were called at around 6am following reports of a suspicious male in the area. Armed officers attended and arrested three men on suspicion of burglary. A force spokesperson said: "We were called at 6am this morning (Monday 13 July) to reports of a suspicious man on Gigg Lane, Bury. Armed officers swiftly attended and arrested three men aged 18, 20 and 20 on suspicion of burglary. They have all been bailed pending further investigation. Enquiries are ongoing."
