Armed police shot a man at a home in Luton on Tuesday after a woman suffered stab wounds, leaving the man with life-changing injuries.
Bedfordshire Police officers were called to a property in Cardigan Street at around 12.50pm following reports that a man was threatening a woman with a knife, the force said.
Officers fired four shots and a baton round
Armed response officers attended the scene, and one officer fired four shots while another discharged a baton round, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The rounds appeared to strike the man once in the arm and once in the leg. He received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.
Woman taken to hospital with stab wounds
The woman was also taken to hospital with stab wounds. Her condition is not understood to be life-threatening.
The IOPC has been notified of the incident, which remains under investigation.
