Armed police were deployed to an Asda supermarket in Barnstaple following reports of men with a gun in the car park. Devon and Cornwall Police received the alert at around 11.30am on Friday at the Taw Wharf store.
Officers, some armed with guns, attended the scene and detained three men. However, after extensive searches, no firearm was found. The three individuals were later released with no further action taken.
A police spokesperson said: 'Due to the nature of the report, armed officers attended the scene. Following extensive searches, no firearm was located. Three people were detained and subsequently released with no further action.'
