An Afghan refugee accused of killing a British woman in Athens has been identified as Sharif Ahmadzai, a 26-year-old professional boxer who ran a refugee charity. He is suspected of killing Elisabeth-Jane Ross, 38, and disposing of her body in a suitcase.
Details of the case
Ross's remains were found in an abandoned building in Kypseli on July 16. Ahmadzai is also accused of using her bank cards to withdraw thousands of euros. CCTV allegedly shows him leaving the flat where she was staying with a suitcase, which was later discovered at the scene.
Background of the suspect
Ahmadzai arrived in Greece via Lesvos in 2016 and married US-born Alaina Hall in 2023. The couple founded Love Every Nation Athens, a ministry helping refugees, and are believed to have known Ross through their work. Their organisation owned the apartment she was using, and they had a key to it.
