A section of the A1 northbound in County Durham has been closed due to a police-led incident. The closure affects the stretch between J61 Bowburn Interchange and J62 Carrville Interchange.
Emergency services at the scene
Durham Police and North East Ambulance Service have attended the incident. National Highways has confirmed that a full police investigation is ongoing at the scene.
National Highways stated: "The A1(M) northbound in County Durham is closed between J61 Bowburn Interchange (Spennymoor, A688; Durham, A177; Durham Services) and J62 Carrville Interchange (Durham, Sunderland, A690). This is due to a Durham Police-led incident. North East Ambulance Service also attended this incident."
No traffic caught within closure
National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with the closures. There is no traffic caught within the closure, according to the traffic service.
The statement added: "A full police investigation is ongoing at scene and, at this time, they have not provided an estimated duration for how long this will take."
