A devastating fire swept through a building in a New Delhi neighborhood on Wednesday, claiming the lives of at least four individuals and leaving several others injured, according to officials.
Details of the Incident
The blaze erupted in the Malviya Nagar area, located in the southern part of the city. The affected building housed a restaurant on its ground floor, with residential units situated above. Fire department personnel successfully rescued 37 people from the structure, as confirmed by fire official Abhilash Malik.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation and has not yet been determined.
Casualties and Response
Authorities recovered four bodies from the site. Additionally, at least seven individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, reported Jitendra Kumar, a senior administrative official.
Fires are a recurring issue in India, often attributed to widespread non-compliance with building regulations and safety standards by both developers and residents.
