Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that the suspect in the murder investigation of Ann Widdecombe is a white male. Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson stated that the inquiry is progressing rapidly and urged the public to come forward with any information.
Police Appeal for Information
DCI Rosson described the incident as extremely tragic and emphasized that the thoughts of the force are with Widdecombe's family and friends. She said: 'This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe at this difficult time. Our murder enquiry is in its early stages but moving at a significant pace. We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to locate the person responsible who we believe to be a white male.'
Key Areas of Interest
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the vicinity of Haytor Vale or Haytor. They are also seeking CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage that could assist the investigation. An increased uniformed police presence has been deployed in the area to support the inquiry and reassure residents.
Appeal to Avoid Speculation
DCI Rosson urged the public not to speculate about the incident, especially on social media, as it could harm the investigation and cause distress to Widdecombe's loved ones. She added: 'We will release further information when we are able to do so. In the meantime I would ask people not to speculate about what might have happened, particularly on social media. This is not only potentially harmful to our investigation but also deeply distressing for family and friends of Ann Widdecombe.'
