Livingston MP Raises Alarm Over Burglaries Targeting Indian Community

Gregor Poynton MP has written to both Police Scotland and the Scottish Government after concerns were raised by members of the Indian community regarding a number of reported burglaries across Edinburgh, West Lothian and the wider Lothians.

The issue was raised directly with the Livingston constituency MP during a recent street surgery in Eliburn last Friday, as well as through conversations with constituents and members of the local Indian community across West Lothian.

Mr Poynton has asked Police Scotland what action is being taken to identify those responsible and whether a coordinated approach is being adopted across the affected areas. He has also sought assurances for families who have been left concerned by the incidents.

He said: “Several constituents have contacted me about these reports and the impact they are having on members of the Indian community across West Lothian and the wider Lothians.

“People are understandably concerned and want reassurance that every effort is being made to investigate these incidents, bring those responsible to justice and prevent further crimes from taking place.

“I have written to both Police Scotland and the SNP Scottish Government to seek further information on the action being taken and the support being provided to affected communities.

“People should feel safe in their own homes and it is important that those who have been affected know that their concerns are being heard.”
