Two 20-year-olds from Haydock have been arrested after police discovered a firearm silencer and ammunition hidden under a bed during a raid linked to an illegal cannabis shipment.
Merseyside Police executed a search warrant at a house in Haydock on the morning of September 16, following an investigation into the illegal importation of drugs.
Cannabis haul and weapon discovery
Officers recovered eight vacuum packages of cannabis weighing 3.6kg, worth thousands of pounds. Inside a white carrier bag under a bed, they found a firearm silencer and ammunition in a magazine.
A man and a woman, both aged 20 and from Haydock, were arrested on suspicion of improper importation of goods – controlled Class B drug into the UK, possession of a controlled Class B drug cannabis, possession of a relevant accessory to a firearm without a certificate, and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.
Police statement and ongoing investigation
Both have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Inspector Dave Brennan said: “Thanks to our joint working with Border Force officers where they discovered a large amount of cannabis which would have flooded our streets.
“This in turn led to us finding accessories to a firearm which as we all know causes devastation and fear in our communities.
“Our investigation into this continues with further action to be taken.
“We know the destruction that drugs cause, and Merseyside Police remains relentless in our pursuit of these criminals and to bring down serious and organised criminal groups.
“Drug supply is hugely damaging to our communities, often involving intimidation, violence and creating fear. Those involved pay no notice to borders so it is vital we share intelligence and resources, in order to target networks, safeguard vulnerable people and prevent further harm.”
