The Daniel crime family, one of Scotland's most dangerous gangs, has controlled drug networks in the north of Glasgow for decades. A bitter feud with the Lyons family has escalated into years of murders, shootings and stabbings.
Most recently, Robert Daniel, 51, and Ronnie Daniel, 41, were both targeted by associates of the Lyons crime family at their homes in Glasgow in two separate and unsuccessful machete attacks on Friday, amid a new wave of chaos linked to Scotland's reignited gang-war. Robert has been targeted by the Lyons a number of times over the years, including April 2025 when his home was set on fire and a £70,000 BMW parked in the driveway was badly damaged.
Recent attacks and the reignited feud
A car was also torched at a garage linked to the Daniel crime clan on Saturday, August 22. Emergency services were called to Kelvinside Motor Company on Milton Road in Kirkintilloch after the vehicle was firebombed shortly before 11pm. Daniel kingpin Francis 'Fraggle' Green is listed as a former director of the garage at Kirkintilloch Industrial Estate, which has been targeted twice in the space of a week. It's understood a group of thugs wielding machetes turned up at the site in a previous attack last Tuesday. It was also targeted in a deliberate fire-raising incident in April last year as the gang-war exploded across the country.
The attack at the garage came just over 24 hours after a car was smashed into a home in East Renfrewshire. A large police cordon was erected on Low Borland Way near Eaglesham following the incident at around 1.40pm on Friday, August 21. The property is understood to be linked to 45-year-old gangster Billy Steele.
The Daniel and Lyons families' feuds were reignited last year when the Lyons mob joined forces with drugs baron Ross McGill and his Tamo Junto (TMJ) gang. McGill, 32, was ripped off by Edinburgh based cocaine baron Mark Richardson's crew when they paid for a £500,000 consignment of cocaine using fake bank notes. The Daniel crew chose to side with Richardson. Steven Lyons was arrested on an Interpol Red Notice in Bali in March and is now in Spain awaiting trial. The 45-year-old's wife, Amanda, was also arrested in Dubai, while 13 more Lyons-linked cronies were also cuffed in Spain and Scotland as part of a two-year investigation into organised crime.
The Daniel family tree
Kingpin Jamie Daniel was said to have made £16 million per year from his criminal enterprise as head of the notorious Daniel clan before his death at the age of 58 in 2016 after a four-year battle with cancer. His life of crime started on the streets of Possilpark stealing scrap metal and shoplifting, before he moved on to selling drugs. Aged 25, he was jailed for heroin smuggling and after he was released he forged links with crooks across the UK and is said to have continued to import drugs from Pakistan. Jamie was believed to have been the main heroin supplier in Glasgow for decades and also was said to earn up to £1 million a month from cigarette smuggling. He was linked to the murder of gangster Frank McPhie, who was gunned down by a sniper outside his Maryhill home in 2000. Nearing the end of his life, he signed himself out of hospital five days before his death at home in Jordanhill. His funeral at Clydebank Crematorium was attended by 600 people. Many of Daniel's ten children were in attendance at his funeral, including Kelly Bo Green, Francis 'Fraggle' Green and Zander Sutherland, with the latter being released from prison for the day.
Norman, also known as Snudger, and his brothers David, Jamie and Ronnie went from petty criminals on the streets of Possilpark to becoming Scotland's richest and most secretive crime clan. The brothers started with shoplifting, loan-sharking and stealing scrap, but ended up building a £16million crime empire from stolen cars, firearms and major drug smuggling. Another Daniel brother, William served time for killing Special Police Constable George Gates, 50, in 1969. He battered the off-duty officer to death with a table leg as he'd witnessed him and two friends stealing copper. Norman became a victim in a latest round of firebomb attacks last year. The pensioner's home at Colston Drive in Bishopbriggs was torched in the early hours of April 14, 2025. Footage showed the 72-year-old's bungalow-type property engulfed in flames after his home was targeted by thugs linked to a Dubai-based gangster.
Other key members
Norman's daughter Aileen worked at lapdancing bars in Glasgow and was crowned Miss Pole Queen in London in 2006. In 2010, she was charged with intent to supply cocaine after being caught with a £4000 stash and £2400 cash in her car near Bathgate in West Lothian. Aileen and 10 others were then convicted after a Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency probe into a man who had been supplying the crime family with drugs. She admitted the offence in court and told how she was terrified of her dad, Norman. In recent years she has worked alongside Norman, 72, at a scrap metal firm he owned in the Springburn area of Glasgow. Her motorhome was firebombed at Bardowie Street on April 6. Aileen shared footage of her van engulfed in flames as she hit out at hoods who see her as an 'easy target'. She wrote: "Broke my heart seeing this done to my motorhome. I am a single mum and no threat to anyone, just an easy target. We live among evil creatures."
Robert is the cousin of Steven Daniel and thought to be a key member of the clan. He is also one of three members of the crime family past and present named Robert. He was targeted on Friday morning after senior members of the Lyons gang instructed Ross McGill's Tamo Junto (TMJ) to launch revenge attacks after the slaying of Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan in the Costa Del Sol last year. It's understood the TMJ gang travelled to Stepps in an attempt to target Robert but he managed to flee the scene. In November last year, two workers were attacked with a machete and seriously injured at a garage owned by Daniel in East Kilbride. Daniel was believed to be the intended target. Robert Daniel was also targeted in April last year as he slept at a property in Stepps. The home was set on fire and a £70,000 BMW parked in the driveway badly damaged. The 51-year-old was shot and seriously injured in 2017 outside his home in Stepps as he reversed his car.
The Lyons are alleged to have recently ordered a machete attack on Ronnie Jr in revenge for the murders of Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan in the Costa Del Sol last year. The attack took place in Glasgow's Maryhill during the early hours of Friday August 21. Sources told the Record the TMJ footsoldiers ripped into the first property on Curzon Street before trashing the home in their pursuit for Ronnie. He is also reported to have been threatened with a shotgun by a Lyons family associate in Possilpark, Glasgow, in 2021. And he is also believed to have been a pallbearer at the funeral of Daniel family enforcer Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll after he was shot dead outside an Asda supermarket in Robroyston, Glasgow in 2010.
Green is the son of feared crime boss Jamie. In 2010 the 42-year-old was one of the first on the scene following the murder of his brother-in-law Kevin “Gerbil” Carroll outside an Asda supermarket in Robroyston, Glasgow. Green later admitted in court eating the sim card from two phones he was carrying at the time. He was jailed for three-and-a-half years for attacking a grandmother, Susanne Simpson, in the Cairn Bar in Balornock in 2011. Susanne had been involved in a rammy with his sister, Kelly-Bo, but she phoned for back up and Fraggle arrived along with cousin Robert Daniel and two other men. They launched a vicious attack on Susan, leaving her with a fractured cheekbone, scalp damage and bruising. In 2017 a gunman opened fire on his home in Milton of Campsie, near Glasgow. A motor company in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, previously connected to Green, was set on fire in April. Chilling clips posted online showed motors covered in flames following the attack, which was claimed by Ross McGill's ‘Tamu Junto’ group, as they warned they were targeting allies of Mark Richardson. It was later revealed Fraggle was listed as a former director of the vehicles business.
The 36-year-old Zander is another of Jamie's sons and is the younger brother of Fraggle. Zander was sentenced to 13 and half years in prison in 2016 for heroin dealing. Last year he fled to Norway while on leave from Caste Huntly open prison, near Dundee, after death threats. He was then extradited back to Scotland in December. Sutherland got an extra 10 months added to his sentence at Perth Sheriff Court. Zander was given day-release from Addiewell Prison in 2016 to attend his dad's funeral, after being allowed to visit him in hospital the previous week to say goodbye. He helped carry his dad's coffin into the crematorium but was escorted by three G4S security guards throughout the service.
Gerbil was a feared gangland enforcer for the Daniel crime clan who was shot dead in a targeted attack in 2010. He lived in Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire, with his partner, Kelly Green - a daughter of Jamie Daniel. In December 2006, Applerow Motors in Possilpark was the site of a high-profile "Godfather-style" hit. Two gunmen from the Daniel clan, Raymond Anderson and James McDonald, opened fire at the garage, killing Michael Lyons, the nephew of owner, and Daniel clan rival, David Lyons, and wounding his son, Mark Lyons, along with associate Robert Pickett. Gerbil was widely believed to have sanctioned or been involved in planning the 2006 attack on Applerow Motors. Underworld sources claimed the Lyons family subsequently "sanctioned the hit" on Carroll as direct retaliation for this and other attacks. Gerbil was gunned down in 2010 as he sat in the back seat of an Audi in the Asda car park in Robroyston. The son-in-law of mobster Jamie Daniel, he was known for kidnapping and torturing rival drug dealers in attacks dubbed "alien abductions". Ross Monaghan - who was shot dead alongside Eddie Lyons Jnr in Fuengirola last year - was arrested over the shooting but was acquitted after a judge at the High Court in Glasgow ruled there was insufficient evidence to convict him. William 'Buff' Paterson, 45, was later convicted of the murder in 2015 and sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison.
Jamie's daughter Kelly 'Bo' is the widow of the slain gangster Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll who was gunned down as he sat in the back of a vehicle in the car park at Asda in Robroyston. Kelly 'Bo', 45, and Gerbil had two children together and he became the step-father to her eldest son. Since his death she has had a series of shoplifting charges, but mainly kept a low profile until her home at Drumchapel Road was attacked last May. A man was seen throwing liquid from a petrol can at the side of the property and scorch marks were later seen under the windows, with police confirmed they were treating the incident as deliberate fire raising. Speaking to the Record, an underworld source said Kelly and Gerbil's youngest son was believed to have been in the house when it was torched. They added Kelly's home being targeted 'would have made people smile all across Scotland.' An underworld source said at the time: "Gerbil's boy was in the house when this happened. All the Daniel family remain priority targets despite their attempt to broker a peace deal at the weekend. But, this particular attack will have made a lot of people smile all across Scotland. Gerbil was a bully and a thief and made so many enemies so a lot of people will be happy to see this happen. Kelly isn't well liked either and has a horrible attitude, like the rest of them."
In October, forensic officers were then seen searching Kelly Bo's home after a horror attack left a man in hospital. Police were responding to reports of the serious assault of a man but officers said they were not treating the incident as linked to the ongoing gang feud.
