Ashlee Omar, 23, was caught after police traced a drugs line to him through a text from Airbnb and messages to his relatives. He had returned to dealing drugs after his release from prison to pay off a debt.
Investigation and evidence
The police investigation focused on a Cardiff-based drugs line supplying class A drugs. Messages on the phone included the phrase "Live both", believed to refer to the dealer being available to supply both heroin and crack cocaine. The line was saved in an individual's phone as "Ash".
In April last year, the drugs line received a text from Airbnb, and police obtained information from the company confirming the name on the account as Ashlee Omar. The line had also contacted a taxi company numerous times, with journeys ending at an address in Tweedsmuir Road, Tremorfa. The line had also been in contact with a man and woman, later identified as the defendant's father and grandmother.
Arrest and sentencing
Omar was arrested in Whitchurch Road on June 19, 2026, and answered "no comment" to all questions in his police interview. Evidence on his phone revealed he had been involved in supplying heroin and crack cocaine on a street level. He later pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.
The court heard he has six previous convictions, including a sentence of three years and three months imprisonment for possession with intent to supply class A drugs. In mitigation, Kirsten Murphy said her client had "fallen into the world of criminality" but had found it difficult to break from that cycle. The barrister said the defendant was still in significant debt following his release from prison and was under pressure to pay it off.
Sentencing, Recorder Simon Hughes described Omar as "a persistent and committed drug dealer". Omar was sentenced to a total of 46 months imprisonment.
