Later the same day, a second, nearly identical incident was reported at a mosque in the nearby town of Brie-Comte-Robert. This suggests a coordinated and premeditated campaign to intimidate and offend the Muslim community.
Community Leaders and Officials Express Outrage
Local community leaders have been left reeling. The rector of the Brie-Comte-Robert mosque expressed his profound shock and distress, stating that such an act of desecration had never happened before. The mayor of Champigny, who visited the site, strongly condemned the "heinous" act and vowed full support for the Muslim community.
France's Interior Minister has been briefed on the attacks. The incidents are being treated with the utmost seriousness, with the national police's central office for combating hate crimes (DILCRAH) leading the inquiry. The proximity of the locations and the identical nature of the acts point towards the work of the same individuals or group.
