Fans of American Horror Story should not miss the new 'seductive' crime drama The Shards, which is set to become a binge-watch favorite. Ryan Murphy, the creator behind American Horror Story, Netflix's Monster, and Scream Queens, returns with another gripping project.
Adapted from Bret Easton Ellis's best-selling novel of the same name, The Shards promises viewers 'a summer of suspense, seduction and obsession.' The forthcoming crime drama unfolds against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s Los Angeles, where a group of privileged sixth-formers at an exclusive preparatory school must navigate identity, sex, jealousy, and obsession while contending with The Trawler, a serial killer preying on teenagers.
With its release on Disney Plus confirmed for Thursday, August 6, anticipation is fueled by an impressive ensemble cast. Leading the series as aspiring writer and 'keenly observant teenager' Bret is actor Igby Rigney, known from The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
His 'reality begins to unravel' upon the arrival of enigmatic new pupil Robert Mallory, portrayed by Euphoria star Homer Gere, son of Richard Gere. Wes Bentley, Evan Rachel Wood, and Steven Reindhardt portray adult characters in a 'dark and cynical world,' playing Terry Schaffer, Liz Schaffer, and Jordan Roth respectively.
Bentley is recognizable for his role as Jamie Dutton in Yellowstone. Wood is best known for portraying Dolores Abernathy in Westworld. Rounding out Bret's social circle are Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber), Debbie Schaffer (Hayes Warner), and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell).
It remains unclear whether all 10 episodes of The Shards will drop simultaneously or weekly. The teenage crime thriller is co-created by Ryan Murphy and Bret Easton Ellis, author of The Shards and American Psycho. The Shards premieres Thursday, August 6, on Disney Plus.
