Scammers Target GTA 6 Pre-Orders on eBay
GTA 6 pre-orders are officially live, but not all listings are legitimate. Since Rockstar began accepting pre-orders for its upcoming title, scammers have flooded resale sites like eBay with fake listings. A quick search for 'GTA 6 pre-order' on eBay reveals multiple offers, some priced below retail at £59.99 and others as high as £104.85.
Rockstar is charging £69.99 for the Standard Edition and £89.99 for the Ultimate Edition. However, these eBay listings are highly likely to be fraudulent. The official retail prices are fixed, and any deviation should raise red flags.
Physical Editions Are Codes in Boxes
Rockstar has confirmed that all physical editions of GTA 6 will be a code in a box, redeemable on the respective platform's store. This means that even if a buyer receives a physical copy from eBay, the code may already be redeemed, leaving them with an empty plastic case. According to Rockstar, there is no risk of physical stock shortages, as digital codes are unlimited.
This eliminates the typical scalper tactic of buying up physical stock and reselling at inflated prices. Gamers are urged to avoid third-party pre-orders on sites like eBay.
Safe Pre-Order Options
GTA 6 is available for pre-order through authorized retailers such as Amazon, Argos, and Smyths at standard prices. These retailers guarantee delivery a week before launch, allowing time to download the game. Additionally, players can save 11% on the total cost by purchasing PlayStation Store credit via Loaded, though this means forgoing a physical case.
Gamers are advised to only pre-order from official sources to avoid scams. As one security expert noted, 'If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.'
