A dramatic arrest in south London saw a topless suspected drug dealer engage in a fierce struggle with plain-clothed police officers, resulting in white powder flying into the air during the confrontation. The incident unfolded outside a Screwfix store in Brixton, capturing the attention of onlookers and passersby.
Intense Struggle Captured on Video
Video footage recorded by a bystander shows the 34-year-old man rolling on the ground as he desperately attempted to evade arrest just metres from the store's entrance. Dressed only in grey jogging bottoms and a single shoe, the suspect resisted fiercely as two officers tried to pin him down.
Officers Use Force to Subdue Suspect
During the altercation, one officer appeared to knee the suspect in the side as he continued to resist. A third officer quickly joined the fray, helping to tip the man onto the floor where he was finally restrained by the trio. Despite being pinned, the suspect persisted in fighting back, with one officer struggling to apply handcuffs.
White Powder Scatters During Arrest
As the suspect's arm was slammed to the ground, a bag apparently burst, releasing a large pile of white powder onto the pavement. The wind carried particles of the substance and what seemed to be wrapping material into the air, creating a visible cloud around the scene.
Charges and Police Statement
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and on suspicion of assaulting two emergency workers. A force spokesperson stated: 'A 34-year-old man remains in custody after he was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and assaulting two emergency workers. The man was stopped by plain clothed officers outside a shop in Brixton, south London on Tuesday, 14 April.'
The arrest highlights ongoing police efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the area, with plain-clothed operations targeting suspected dealers in public spaces. The incident has drawn attention to the challenges officers face when apprehending resistant suspects in busy urban environments.
