Tuchel Gives Quansah Injury Update After England Win

Quansah Latest Casualty in England's Right-Back Crisis

England boss Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Jarell Quansah suffered a 'classic ankle twist' during the Three Lions' 2-0 World Cup victory over Panama, adding to the team's growing injury concerns at right-back. The Bayer Leverkusen defender was forced off in the second half at MetLife Stadium, becoming the third player in that position to pick up a knock since England arrived in the USA.

Tuchel Downplays Severity

Speaking after the match, Tuchel provided reassurance that the issue is not muscular. 'A classic ankle twist and he is in pain,' Tuchel said. 'He said he had it before and it is a matter of days. He has his leg up high and in ice.' Quansah was seen walking freely as he boarded the team bus, suggesting the injury is not serious.

Quansah joins Newcastle's Tino Livramento and Chelsea captain Reece James on the sidelines. James has been following a special individual training programme in Kansas City, and his tournament is not necessarily over. 'No-one could see that coming,' Tuchel added. 'Reece was in good shape and felt very good, so it's a bit unlucky but Ezri Konsa played in the position for us on a high level. We have still no problem.'

Solutions at Full-Back

Djed Spence has emerged as England's first-choice right-back, featuring in all three group games. The Tottenham defender impressed from the bench against Croatia and started the goalless draw with Ghana. Tuchel values his versatility, as Spence can also operate at left-back. Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah and Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa are also capable of playing at right-back if needed.

When asked about his depleted numbers at full-back, Tuchel admitted: 'Naturally of course, we have another injury in the position. It will be a tight race for Reece James and a tight race for Jarell Quansah but it is our job to find solutions and we will do.'

England's World Cup Progress

England secured top spot in Group L with the win over Panama, setting up a Round of 32 clash against DR Congo in Atlanta. The Three Lions have shown resilience despite the injury setbacks, with Jude Bellingham once again proving his importance to the side.
