A Holytown man has been spared prison after police found cocaine worth £25,000 in his home. Jonathan Ryan, 37, was instead placed on a 12-month curfew when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
Details of the offence
Ryan admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine at the house in Dornoch Road on March 27 last year. Connor McIntyre, prosecuting, said police officers turned up with a search warrant at 5.45pm.
He said: “They searched the property and recovered 917 grammes of cocaine with a value of £25,000. The officers also seized £535 in cash and a mobile phone. The accused made no reply when charged.”
Sentence and background
Ryan will be under social work supervision for a year and must do 200 hours of unpaid community work. Defence lawyer Scott Jones said Ryan has a family and is in full-time employment.
Sheriff Colin Dunipace had warned Ryan he was considering a jail sentence as the amount of cocaine seized was “significant”. But after studying background reports the sheriff said he was prepared to impose an alternative to custody.
