A man was taken to hospital after a suspected gas explosion destroyed a home in Newton Longville, Buckinghamshire, on Sunday morning. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to Cobb Hall Road at about 9.44am BST.
Emergency response
Thames Valley Police responded to reports of an explosion, fire, and collapse of a property. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue said the blast was a suspected gas explosion at a domestic property. The injured man was passed into the care of South Central Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.
Four fire engines were sent to the scene. Neighbours were evacuated from their homes, according to gas distribution company SGN.
Gas supply isolated
SGN engineers isolated the gas supply to affected premises and carried out safety checks in the local area. An SGN spokesperson said: "Following reports of an explosion in Cobb Hall Road, Newton Longville, our engineers joined the emergency services on site this morning. We understand that a resident has been taken to hospital to receive treatment and our thoughts are with them."
Witness account
Dramatic doorbell camera footage captured the moment of the explosion, showing debris flying high in the air and a huge fire. Sue Watkins, 65, who lives nearby, told the BBC: "There was a bungalow on fire, black; front had been blown off; roof was gone."
A Thames Valley Police statement said: "At around 9.44am emergency services were called to Cobb Hall Road, to a report of an explosion, fire and collapse of a property. One person sustained injuries, requiring hospital treatment, where they remain."
