Seven-year-old Musa Ahmed has died in hospital, his family has confirmed, after he was pulled from the water during an Essex beach tragedy at West Mersea. The incident on July 22 claimed the lives of his mother, Shelina Rahman, 41, and his 15-year-old sister, Sameeha.
Family confirms death
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Musa's family confirmed he had died on Tuesday evening. They said he passed away "in a state of ease and peace" at the Royal London Hospital, where he was airlifted following the incident.
Tributes to hospital staff
The family also paid tribute to the doctors and nurses in the hospital's intensive care unit for the "outstanding care and dignity" they showed him during his final days.
Details of the tragedy
The family, from Ilford in east London, had travelled to West Mersea near Colchester for a day trip when the tragedy unfolded. Emergency services were called at around 5.35pm after reports that several people had got into difficulty in the water.
Musa's mother and sister were declared dead at the scene. Three other relatives who were rescued from the sea were taken to hospital by ambulance. Essex Police previously said they were recovering from their injuries.
