A binman has settled the debate over whether households can place excess rubbish next to their wheelie bin on collection day. Ashley, known on social media as the No. 1 Binman, explained that it all depends on local council rules.
Council rules determine collection
Ashley said: "It depends on your council, every council will say something different. Some will allow it, some won't." The binman noted that the council he works for does not allow excess rubbish to be collected. He explained that if the bin is too full, collectors cannot pick up extra waste, and if they try and it smashes, they are held responsible.
What to do if excess is not allowed
Ashley suggested waiting until the bin has been emptied and then refilling it with the leftover waste. He added: "Some councils allow it, maybe paper. But it is how you get it into the lorry, you can't just lean in and add it in." He urged households to check with their local council and follow their guidelines.
