A man is in police custody following a violent incident in Sydney's west that left a woman dead and a man fighting for his life in hospital with critical stab wounds.
Police Respond to Disturbance in Werrington
Emergency services were called to a home on Dunheved Circuit in the suburb of Werrington at approximately 10:30 AM on Saturday, 28th December 2024. The call followed reports of a disturbance at the property.
Upon arrival, officers from the Nepean Police Area Command made a grim discovery. They found a woman, whose identity has not yet been formally released, deceased inside the home. A second victim, a man, was located with severe stab wounds.
The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital. He remains in a critical condition, according to official statements.
Swift Arrest Made at the Scene
Police swiftly detained a 31-year-old man at the location. He was taken to Penrith Police Station where he is currently assisting officers with their inquiries. As of now, no charges have been formally laid.
A crime scene was immediately established, which will be forensically examined by specialist officers. Detectives from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad have been notified and are expected to lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and the assault on the man.
While the investigation is in its early stages, police have indicated they are not looking for any other suspects. This suggests the incident is being treated as contained, with no ongoing threat to the wider public.
Community Shocked by Domestic Violence Tragedy
The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local Werrington community. The nature of the incident has prompted police to treat it as a likely case of domestic violence, a focus of significant public and law enforcement concern in New South Wales.
Authorities have appealed for anyone with information, including neighbours who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the Dunheved Circuit area on Saturday morning, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
This incident adds to a sombre tally of violent deaths in the region. It marks the 56th homicide investigated by NSW Police so far in 2024. The community now waits for further details as the homicide detectives piece together the events that led to this fatal outcome.
