Actress Selma Blair has been detained following allegations she bit and punched cabin crew members aboard a Delta Air Lines flight. The 54-year-old, known for roles in Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions, was travelling from LAX to John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday when the incident occurred.
Blair allegedly also tried to open the aircraft door. She was apprehended shortly after touchdown and transferred to a medical facility for assessment, where she is reported to remain. One cabin crew member was also taken to hospital for examination.
Representative cites medical emergency
A representative for the actress told TMZ: "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
New York Port Authority said in a statement to The Mirror: "On Sunday October 11 at approximately 11pm at JFK Airport, PAPD responded to a call about a physically abusive passenger aboard Delta Airlines flight 938 which was parked at the gate after arrival from LAX. Suspect was identified as Selma Blair, a 54 year-old woman.
"She was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation. Two flight attendants also reported injuries, and one was transported to the hospital for further evaluation."
FBI investigating incident
The NYPA confirmed that the FBI is currently investigating the incident. A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines said: "Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."
In audio footage released of the alleged altercation, a woman can be heard repeatedly screaming "No!" as an alarm sounds in the background. The FBI has issued Blair with a notice charging her with assault, according to a federal law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Blair had recently taken to social media to share updates about her schedule, posting on X shortly before the incident: "From LA to New Mexico to La to nyc to LA Scout and I have been busy. I miss you."
