The daughter of Rangers legend Gordon Smith has spoken out after her tarot reader husband was convicted of abusing her and blocking her from seeing her family.
Libby Smith married 'psychic entrepreneur' Colin Stevenson in a 'secret' wedding ceremony in 2023 before holding a lavish reception with her famous dad by her side and Corrie star Helen Flanagan as a bridesmaid.
But Stevenson was sentenced to community service this week after admitting abusing the 37-year-old mum-of-three over a period of almost three years - starting just weeks before their marriage.
Abuse details revealed in court
The 43-year-old was banned from contacting Libby after admitting behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards his ex at Lanark Sheriff Court - including preventing her family from visiting her and their newborn child.
Posting on her Instagram page after the Record told of her ordeal today, Libby wrote: “For a long time I’ve shown up here laughing, raising my three children, working and rebuilding my life.
“What most people didn’t know was that behind all that I was also navigating the criminal justice system as a victim of domestic abuse.
“For a long time I stayed quiet while the legal process took its course. Now that it has, I’m finally able to speak for myself.
“The last few years have stripped me back in ways I can’t explain.
“There were moments I didn’t know how I’d keep going.”
The post added: “When I had nothing left I got on my knees and prayed. My faith became my anchor.
“I’m not sharing this for sympathy. And I’m not sharing it to begin a public war. Please don’t contact, message or attack anyone on my behalf.
“I’m sharing this because I’m done carrying something that happened to me as though it’s my shameful secret. It isn’t.”
Thanking her supporters, Libby added: “You never never really know what someone is carrying behind the screen.”
Prosecutor describes cruel pattern
Stevenson, who has two children with Libby, claimed the abuse came after a “clash of two styles of living”, with his wife’s family being used to living in the public eye while he wanted a “quiet life”.
But prosecutors described a cruel pattern of prolonged abuse which left Libby cut off from her loved ones. Fiscal depute Jack Muir said the pair met in January 2022 when Stevenson read Libby’s tarot cards.
They chatted over social media before starting a relationship and moving in together. He said the abuse began when Stevenson started criticising her parenting style as being too soft and would call her a “roaster”.
When the couple moved from Glasgow to a property in Lanark Libby tried to visit her mum Marlene once a week but on one visit Stevenson called her and told her to return home.
Mr Muir said: “Marlene Smith could hear the accused shouting.”
Later that year Libby fell pregnant but Stevenson would not allow Libby’s mum to see or have access to the child and controlled how the mum should care for the baby. The court heard Stevenson had not wished for Libby to breastfeed their child and the mum ended up in hospital with sepsis as she was too afraid to tell him she had developed mastitis.
During one trip to see her in hospital Stevenson told his wife that visiting her was “a waste of time and petrol”. The court heard the relationship ended in April 2025, with Libby moving away and starting divorce proceedings.
Stevenson also admitting he shouted, swore and uttered insults at his wife, attempting to isolate her from her friends and making “insulting remarks about her appearance”.
The abuse happened between October 1, 2022 and April 30, 2025 - beginning just a few weeks before their November 2022 wedding.
Defence and reaction
Stevenson’s solicitor Archie Hill said: “We have a clash of two styles of living here. On one hand the complainer is, what you would call nowadays an influencer, as I understand it.
“She wants to tell people about their lives. He wanted a small church, she wanted a lavish Stella’s at a church in Fife. Her parents were in the public eye. She has been used to being in the public eye through her parents.
“He wanted a quiet life. It wasn’t going to work and petered out and she simply left.
“Mr Stevenson is remorseful for his actions during the course of the marriage but it was a two way street.
“He wanted to establish a family unit in Lanarkshire in a rural environment. He wanted to bring the family out here for about better life and it didn’t work.”
But a source close to Libby rubbished Stevenson’s narrative that he wanted a “quiet life” away from the limelight as “ridiculous”.
They told the Record Stevenson had even enlisted Libby’s famous dad to appear on a sports podcast he set up alongside a business at the start of the relationship.
They said: “Colin was trying to break into the sports industry on the back of Gordon’s name. So was it ok then to use the name?”
We previously told how Libby announced she had got married just days after her secret ceremony on the banks of Loch Fyne. She took to social media to reveal she is now ‘a wife’ after eloping with her new husband for a ceremony in Inveraray attended by just them and their witnesses.
The news came as a shock to her fans as she hadn’t indicated on social media that she was engaged.
A glitzy reception followed in December, with Celebrity hairstylist Pam Doc sharing pictures of the bridal party, which showcased Libby’s stunning long sleeved dress. Actress pal Helen wowed in a silver sequin dress, holding a single red rose.
Again, her new husband was absent from the pictures. But Libby posed alongside her mum and dad - ex-Rangers, Brighton and Manchester City striker Gordon who was the chief executive of the Scottish FA from 2007-2010.
Smith, who remains heavily involved within the game, famously scored the winning goal against Celtic in the 1978 Scottish League Cup Final. Libby has a son, Edson Thunder Smith, to her ex-boyfriend, former Celtic keeper Logan Bailly.
Stevenson describes himself as an entrepreneur on social media and advertises a tarot reading app he has He has been described as a “psychic-ologist, an “energy healer” and “truth seeker” as well as a “psychic entrepreneur”.
Libby’s influencer pal, Love Island’s Laura Anderson, was among those to offer support, writing on Instagram: “I'm disgusted he was ever in my vicinity and got to call your beautiful soul his.
“Your fight will help others.”
