Ash Good, a 38-year-old mother who died after attempting to save her nine-month-old baby during a stabbing spree at a Sydney shopping centre, has been described as an 'incredible mother'. The attack occurred on Saturday afternoon at Bondi Junction, where Good was stabbed while pushing her baby in a pram.
Eyewitnesses reported that Good, after being stabbed, handed her baby to a bystander for treatment. A man who helped the family told 9 News Sydney: 'The baby got stabbed. The mum got stabbed and came over with a baby and threw it at me – I was holding the baby, it looked pretty bad. There was a lot of blood on the floor.'
Sky News Australia anchor Laura Jayes, who knew Good, said: 'She was an incredible athlete. She was so smart, so beautiful. She was just so excited to be a new mother and all of that was ripped away in seconds here this afternoon.' Jayes added that family and friends were taking turns at the hospital waiting room.
The baby underwent surgery following the attack. New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb told a press conference: 'The last update I had was that it had been in surgery and it's too early to say really. But it's awful.' Webb could not confirm reports of the mother's death.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Good worked as an account executive at Docusign and held a master's degree in osteopathy. In a recent post, she wrote about the privilege of becoming a parent and returning to work after maternity leave.
