Mother charged with murder after baby shot dead in Louisiana

A 28-year-old mother from Louisiana has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting her one-year-old daughter dead on New Year's night.

Horrific Discovery on New Year's Night

According to authorities from the Sulphur Police Department, the tragic incident occurred at a family home on Quelqueshue Street in Sulphur. The victim has been identified by her father as one-year-old Acelynn Moss.

Bradley Moss, the child's father, told investigators he was in another part of the house when he heard a loud boom. Rushing into the room, he reportedly discovered his daughter with a fatal gunshot wound and the child's mother, Kristin Bass, allegedly holding a firearm.

"I Just Sent Our Baby to God"

In a chilling account given to FOX8, Mr Moss claimed that Bass told him she had shot Acelynn to "send her to God." He further stated that Bass suggested she intended to shoot their second child, a two-year-old girl who was also present and crying for help.

"I almost lost two babies," Moss told the news outlet. "I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God. [My older daughter] said, 'Help me, Daddy.' And Kristin said, 'I just sent our baby to God.'"

Moss added that Bass then said, "Now I gotta get her," in reference to their older child.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Following the incident on Tuesday 6 January 2026, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the couple's two-year-old daughter.

Kristin Bass was taken into custody by Sulphur police. After investigators determined she was responsible for the shooting, she was formally charged with first-degree murder.

Bass remains in jail on a bond set at $10 million. The case continues to develop as law enforcement proceeds with its investigation.
