Abdul Qudus Odushoga, 23, of Hardel Walk, Tulse Hill, south London, has been jailed for three years at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, August 18, according to Kent Police. He pleaded guilty to assault, intentional strangulation and controlling and coercive behaviour.
Campaign of abuse
During a months-long ordeal, Odushoga pushed the woman through a wardrobe, bit her leaving marks on her skin, and threw a shopping trolley at her. He also demanded money from her and snatched it from her purse when she refused.
Odushoga ordered her to buy him expensive clothes, pay for taxis and purchase food for him. His demands escalated to the point where the woman was forced to ask friends and family for money to live.
Violent attacks
After the shopping trolley he hurled at her missed and she tried to flee, Odushoga grabbed her by the neck and dragged her back to the house. His grip on her neck was so tight that she was choking.
He would then apologise and beg her to stay with him, but also blamed her for his behaviour and accused her of embarrassing him.
Arrest and sentencing
The woman called the police after another violent attack. When Odushoga found out, he tried to strangle her and smacked her head against a metal cabinet and floor. He fled before police arrived but was arrested later the same day.
Det Sgt Ellen Compton said: "For months, Odushoga subjected the victim to a relentless pattern of abuse which left her living in fear. No one should have to endure the violence, intimidation and control that she experienced."
She added: "The courage she has shown in coming forward and supporting this investigation has helped ensure a dangerous offender has been held accountable and is no longer able to cause her further harm."
