Tariq Khan, 27, of Manningham, West Yorkshire, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 25 years at Bradford Crown Court for the murder of his pregnant wife.
Khan admitted stabbing his wife, who was six months pregnant, and a charge of child destruction at the former family home in Holker Street, Manningham. He had separated from her shortly before the murder and was facing deportation proceedings at the time.
He also admitted assaulting his wife about a month before the killing. Judge Roger Thomas QC said Khan had meant not only to punish his wife but had a specific intent to destroy her baby.
In a statement, Nadia Khan's family said her death had profoundly affected them. They described her as a caring daughter and sister and a loving mother, adding that it "kills us that her children will grow up without a mum and dad." They said Tariq Khan had caused them a lot of pain and hoped he stays in jail for the rest of his life.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark McManus said Khan was "clearly a very dangerous man" and that the community of Manningham is safer with him behind bars.
