Irish police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after the bodies of a man and an 11-year-old boy were discovered at two separate homes in west Dublin. Emergency services were called to a property in the Cherry Orchard area of Ballyfermot at approximately 8.30am on Thursday, where the man, believed to be aged 48, was found deceased.
During follow-up inquiries, the body of the boy was discovered at a home in Clondalkin. It is understood the man was the boy's father. Both scenes have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The coroner has been notified and the Office of the State Pathologist has been requested to assist. Post-mortem examinations will be arranged in due course. A Garda statement said they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the discoveries.
No arrests have been made, and an investigation under a Senior Investigating Officer is ongoing. The results of the post-mortems will help determine the course of the inquiry.
