Joss Stone reveals she was in abusive relationship: 'It was extremely dangerous'

Joss Stone has revealed she previously endured an abusive relationship, describing the period as "extremely dangerous" and admitting she tried to leave her former partner numerous times.

The 38-year-old soul singer shared her experience in a series of Instagram Reels ahead of her podcast A Cuppa Love, after a fan asked for advice on leaving an abusive partner. Stone stressed the importance of having a plan, including preparing a "to-go bag", before making an exit.

Recalling her own ordeal, she said her former partner once "threw her out in the rain" while she was wearing only a T-shirt, believing she was trapped in the driveway because he had locked the gate. She knew the code, however, and ran, but he chased after her and caught her, allegedly telling her the police were going to arrest her.

Stone explained that she was eventually able to leave because she is a touring musician and "just decided to never go back". She said she wanted to highlight that "we are not alone", noting that one in three women experience abuse from a partner at some point. "Don't let it crush your beautiful spirit," she added.

The singer is now married to Cody DaLuz, with whom she shares four children: Violet, Shackleton, adopted son Bear, and Nalima Rose.
