Bill Stevenson, the ex-husband of former First Lady Jill Biden, has been charged with first-degree murder over the death of his wife Linda Stevenson, Delaware police have announced.
The 77-year-old was arrested on Monday and charged following a police investigation that lasted over a month. Officers had responded to a domestic dispute at a home in Oak Hill, Wilmington, on December 28, where they found Linda Stevenson, 64, unresponsive in the living room. Life-saving measures were administered but she could not be saved.
Stevenson was taken into custody at the same address and is being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000 bail. No further details about the circumstances of the death have been released.
Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 to 1975. During that time, he opened the Stone Balloon college bar near the University of Delaware, which became a popular music venue. In a 2020 interview, Stevenson disputed the Biden campaign's version of how Jill met Joe Biden, alleging an affair, which was strongly denied by a Biden spokesperson.
