Tom Brown, 46, has been jailed for four years and eight months after attacking his estranged wife over missing instant noodles and kicking a police officer in the head. The sentence was handed down at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (August 21).
Attack over instant noodles
Brown flew into a rage and stormed out of the house in Woodditton, Newmarket, where he was still staying despite the couple having separated. Thirty minutes later, he returned and raged at the woman when he failed to find any of the dried dough snack. He stomped off upstairs in a huff but came back 15 minutes later to continue the row.
When the woman walked out of the kitchen, Brown pursued her, dragged her to the floor and pressed his body weight on her to the point where she struggled to breathe. She managed to escape and fled to a neighbour's house, according to Cambridgeshire Police.
Police officer kicked in the head
Brown chased her and started yelling outside the property until police arrived to arrest him. Still raging, he kicked an officer in the head as he was getting out of a police van at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge.
Brown pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm and one count of common assault of an emergency worker. He denied two counts of intentional strangulation, which will remain on file. He was also sentenced to a 15-year restraining order against the woman.
Detective's comments
Det Cons Jack Sillince said: "Brown's attack on his wife was abhorrent and he was incredibly hostile to police who came to intervene."
"The judge noted how little remorse Brown had shown and the level of arrogance he displayed throughout the whole process by blaming the victim," he added. He also said detectives wouldn't have managed to secure Brown's conviction without the woman's support.
