A quiet neighbourhood in St. Petersburg, Florida has been left reeling after a 74-year-old grandmother lost her life in a horrific attack by her own pet pit bulls.
The tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when police responded to emergency calls about a dog attack in progress. Upon arrival, officers discovered the elderly woman, identified as Susan Nellis, with catastrophic injuries in her backyard.
Neighbours' Desperate Attempts to Help
According to witness accounts, neighbours heard terrifying screams coming from the property and rushed to assist. One brave resident attempted to intervene but was forced back by the aggressive behaviour of the animals.
"We heard this awful screaming and knew something was terribly wrong," one neighbour told local media. "When we got there, it was just... horrific. Those dogs had completely turned on her."
