A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered before her body was dumped in a well in Haripur, Pakistan. Police confirmed that four suspects have been arrested after her body was recovered on Monday, August 24.
Abduction and Discovery
The girl was reportedly kidnapped from outside her home on August 10 before being reported missing by her family. Detectives launched an urgent investigation before finding her body in a well around 200 metres away from her house.
A post-mortem report has since concluded that she died from excessive bleeding and shock after being raped. Police said four boys have been arrested in connection with the alleged attack and remain in custody.
Investigation Details
As reported by Dawn, the girl was allegedly raped and murdered in the city of Haripur. She is said to have been taken from outside her home at around 6pm local time on August 10 (2pm UK time).
After she was reported missing, police officers launched an urgent investigation which included collecting body samples for DNA testing and forensic analysis. It has since been determined that she was raped and bled to death.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Gandapur said in a press conference on Thursday, August 27, that the girl went missing from outside her home. He confirmed that four boys had been arrested following the examination of CCTV footage from across the area.
He added that the four suspects were juveniles, hence "the situation called for strict adherence to legal provisions". Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported attack.
Officers eventually found the girl's body after questioning one of the suspects. They recovered the body from a well at a warehouse located near her home.
It's reported the boys raped the girl before throwing her into the well. They then allegedly tried to conceal the body with foliage.
Haripur is a major city located in the Hazara Division of Pakistan, around 65km north of Islamabad. It has a population of around 1.17 million people.
