A devastated father has issued a stark warning to pet owners across the nation after his 19-year-old daughter was tragically killed by the family dog inside their Essex home. Jamie-Lea Biscoe lost her life in a horrific incident that has left her family and community in profound shock.
The Tragic Discovery
Jack, a 37-year-old father, described the harrowing moment he discovered his teenage daughter on the bedroom floor of their home in Leaden Roding, Essex. He found Jamie-Lea with a severe bite wound to her neck, a sight that will haunt him forever. The family had owned the female lurcher, named Shy, since she was a seven-week-old puppy, and the dog had been considered Jamie-Lea's "best friend" for seven years.
No History of Aggression
In a heartbreaking revelation, Jack emphasised that the pet had no prior history of aggression or biting people. The lurcher used to sleep on his daughter's bed, and the family had complete trust in the animal. "She was not killed by an XL Bully," Jack stated, "she was killed by a genuine family dog." This underscores the unpredictable nature of even the most trusted pets.
The Night of the Attack
The tragic event unfolded on a Friday evening when Jack went out with his partner, Steven Daniels, to KFC. Upon returning home around 10:45 PM, they made the grim discovery. Jack immediately began performing CPR on his daughter in a desperate attempt to save her life. During this frantic effort, the dog turned on him, biting off part of his ear before he could intervene further.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save Jamie-Lea, who was pronounced dead at the home. Essex Police have since seized the dog, along with two other dogs that are Shy's puppies, which were downstairs during the attack. Jack was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, and he has been released on bail pending further investigation.
A Father's Warning
Speaking to The Sun, Jack shared a poignant message for other pet owners: "I thought I could trust that dog with my life and it took my daughter's life." His words serve as a sobering reminder that even beloved family pets can pose unforeseen risks, urging vigilance and caution in all households with animals.
Community Impact and Police Statement
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper of Essex Police addressed the incident, acknowledging the shock it has caused in the local community. "My thoughts, and those of us all at Essex Police, are with the loved ones of the woman who died yesterday," he said. Officers remain in the area to gather information and provide support, with experienced detectives leading the investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this tragic event.
