Killer Dad Jailed for Life After Leaving Five-Week-Old Baby to Die in Sweltering Flat
Dad jailed for life after baby dies in sweltering flat

A heartless father has been handed a life sentence after leaving his five-week-old son to die in a sweltering flat while he went out drinking.

Thomas Dunn, 25, showed "utter disregard" for his newborn's life, abandoning the vulnerable infant in a stiflingly hot room with no ventilation. The baby tragically succumbed to the extreme heat as his father spent hours at a pub.

A Father's Unforgivable Neglect

Court proceedings revealed Dunn had been warned repeatedly about the dangers of leaving his son unattended. On the fateful day, temperatures inside the flat soared to unbearable levels while the infant was left completely alone.

Medical experts confirmed the baby died from hyperthermia - essentially overheating - in what prosecutors described as "an entirely preventable tragedy".

Justice Served

Judge Sarah Munro QC condemned Dunn's actions as "the grossest breach of trust imaginable" when sentencing him to life with a minimum term of 12 years. She noted his complete lack of remorse and failure to accept responsibility for his son's death.

The case has sparked outrage among child welfare advocates, who are calling for better support systems for vulnerable parents and increased awareness about infant safety.
