An inquest has opened into the death of a three-year-old boy who was found face-down in a garden pond in Crosby. Reuben Reynolds died a day after the incident.

The inquest, held at Bootle Town Hall on July 22, heard that Reuben was discovered face-down in a pond in the rear garden of his home on Brownmoor Lane on Saturday, July 18. He was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital by ambulance, where he died at 10.57pm on Sunday, July 19.
Coroner's officer Laura Daniels read evidence to the court stating that Reuben was located face down in a pond in the rear garden of the property in Crosby.
Post-mortem and investigation
Senior coroner Anita Bhardwaj told the court that a post-mortem has not yet been carried out but is expected to take place this week. A full inquest has not been listed, with the listing dependent on the post-mortem results.
Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service attended the incident. The home is believed to be where he lived with his mother. Officers are continuing to support the family and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said emergency services were called to the address on Brownmoor Lane on Saturday evening following a report a three-year-old boy had fallen into a pond. The child was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced deceased.
