Andrew 'Reidy' Reid, a lifeguard from the television series Bondi Rescue, has appeared in court facing domestic violence charges. The 45-year-old has pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault (DV) allegedly occurring in November 2022 and January 2024 in Chatswood, Sydney. A further charge of occasioning actual bodily harm (DV) is alleged to have occurred on March 24, 2024, while a fourth domestic violence charge has been dismissed.
The allegations involve the same woman, who is listed as a protected person under an apprehended domestic violence order against Reid. Defence barrister Margaret Cunneen SC stated that the charges will be 'vigorously defended', noting that the incidents could be 'accounted for by an accident' and that 'no hitting or punching is alleged'. Reid's good character will be raised in the defence.
Reid has been a star on Bondi Rescue since its debut in 2006. Earlier this year, he was hailed as a hero for assisting victims during the Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing rampage, where Joel Cauchi killed six people. Reid, who was shopping in Myer, rushed to help a bleeding woman after convincing a security guard to let him under a safety door.
Reid described the scene as traumatic, saying he had never seen so much blood. He and others provided first aid to multiple victims. The hearing is scheduled for March 25, 2025, at Hornsby Local Court.
