A man has died and two individuals have been arrested following a devastating crash involving a motorcycle and two lorries on the East Lancashire Road in Haydock, near Liverpool. The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Monday, June 8, prompting a major emergency response from Merseyside Police and other services.
Details of the Collision
The crash took place on the westbound carriageway between Penny Lane and Kenyons Lane South. Emergency services arrived to find that a motorcycle had collided with two heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). The rider, a man in his 40s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
According to police statements, one HGV is believed to have been in direct collision with the motorcyclist, while a second HGV may have been indirectly involved in the circumstances leading up to the crash. Both vehicles were towing white trailers; one cab was dark in color, and the other was white with black stripes.
Arrests Made
Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. A 38-year-old man from Carmarthenshire has been taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and driving while unfit through drugs. Additionally, a 28-year-old man from the Widnes area of Cheshire has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving, driving while unfit through drugs, and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a controlled drug above the specified limit. Both individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, from Merseyside Police's serious collision investigation unit, issued an appeal for information. He stated: "Our thoughts are with the man's family at this incredibly difficult time. An investigation is ongoing, and I would appeal to anyone who was traveling in the area at the time to check their dashcam footage for anything that may assist our enquiries, including footage of the collision itself or the moments leading up to it."
He emphasized that front and rear dashcams can often capture vital evidence without the driver realizing it. Police are particularly keen to review any footage showing either of the HGVs or the motorcycle involved. Witnesses who saw the incident or the vehicles beforehand are urged to come forward, no matter how insignificant the information may seem.
Road Closures
The eastbound carriageway of the East Lancashire Road has reopened, but a section of the westbound carriageway remains closed to allow for ongoing investigative work. Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible or allow extra time for their journeys.
