A Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) will be held into the death of George Anderson, a 46-year-old worker from Lanark who died after being electrocuted on the Isle of Arran.
Mr Anderson passed away on March 26 last year while working at a property in Brodick, Isle of Arran, North Ayrshire. He was a father of three.
Fatal Accident Inquiry Proceedings
The Procurator Fiscal has lodged a First Notice with the Sheriff Court to commence the court process for the joint FAI into his death. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 1 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.
The purpose of an FAI includes determining the cause of death, the circumstances in which the death occurred, and to establish what, if any, reasonable precautions could have been taken and could be implemented in the future. FAIs are inquisitorial in nature and are used to establish facts rather than to apportion blame, unlike criminal proceedings.
Tributes to George Anderson
George's fiancée, Lynsey Downie, paid tribute to him online after his death. She wrote: "It doesn’t feel real to be writing this and I am praying that I fall asleep, wake up and it’s all been a terrible mistake.
"My person, my Geo, my love sadly passed away after a tragic accident today leaving behind three devastated children and a family full of broken hearts."
She added: "The thought of him never knowing what his children will achieve in this world hurts my heart more than knowing how much I’m going to miss him. Life will never be the same again. Someone please tell me that this is not for real."
Julie Shaw commented: "Utterly devastated and heartbroken for you all. An incredible fiancé, dad and friend. He will be sorely missed. George, so many memories we treasure."
Kerry Hall wrote: "I always think 'what a great dad' when I think of George. I could see how much you meant to each other. So shocked and heartbroken for you all. I hope you manage to love and support each other through."
Sharon Bruce said: "I couldn’t believe this when I heard. I’m so so sorry. We’re thinking of you all. George was such a lovely, kind gentleman, who loved you and the kids to bits. Sending lots of love to you all."
Bev Reilly added: "He loved you and his children fiercely and was always so proud anytime we spoke. George was such a kind, caring and beautiful soul, and l will miss putting the world to rights any time we met."
Investigation and Next Steps
George's death is being investigated by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), Scotland's independent deaths investigation authority. His loved ones are being kept up to date with any major developments in the inquiry.
Debbie Carroll for the COPFS said: "The death of George Anderson occurred while in the course of his employment and as such a Fatal Accident Inquiry is mandatory.
"The lodging of the First Notice enables FAI proceedings to commence under the direction of the Sheriff. Mr Anderson’s family will continue to be kept informed of significant developments."
