Trio deny murder of prisoner Kyle Bevan at HMP Wakefield

Three men have gone on trial at Leeds Crown Court, accused of murdering a fellow inmate at HMP Wakefield. Mark Fellows, 45; David Taylor, 64; and Lee Newall, 57, all deny the murder of Kyle Bevan, 33, who was found dead in the West Yorkshire prison on November 5 last year.

Trial begins before Mrs Justice McGowan

The trial is being presided over by Mrs Justice McGowan. The prosecution is led by Jason Pitter KC, while Fellows is represented by Nick Johnson KC, Taylor by Jeremy Dein KC, and Newall by Joe Stone KC. Mr Pitter is expected to open the prosecution's case to the jury on Wednesday morning.

Background to the case

Mark Fellows is a notorious hitman previously convicted of the murders of gangsters Paul Massey and John Kinsella. David Taylor and Lee Newall are also charged in connection with Bevan's death. The trio have all entered not guilty pleas.
