Three people are due in court over the death of loving grandad Simon Beston who was allegedly attacked on Ladies Day. The 55-year-old suffered serious head injuries in the alleged assault in the China Town area of Newcastle's St Andrew’s Street on the evening of July 26 last year, police said.
He died in hospital three weeks later. Five people were arrested at the time, and today police have confirmed that three people have been charged.
Police appeal for privacy
Det Insp Ashley Loader of Northumbria Police said: “Our thoughts remain firmly with Simon’s family and loved ones following the events of that night. We continue to provide them with all the possible support and request that their privacy is respected.”
Loader added: “With proceedings now active, we would ask that the public avoid speculation, both online and in the community, and respect the ongoing legal process.”
