A teenager has appeared in court accused of having a gun and seriously injuring a man in Gateshead. Cameron Donohue allegedly had a hand gun and threatened a male with it on a street in Bensham.
Court appearance and charges
The 19-year-old is also suspected of attacking the same man and leaving him with serious injuries. Donohue, of Leam Gardens, in Felling, Gateshead, was due to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court in July but he failed to show and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
He was detained this week and appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court in custody on Wednesday. Donohue was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Prosecution and bail decision
Clare Haswell, prosecuting, said the offences were alleged to have happened on October 5 last year. Miss Haswell added: "These matters are indictable only, so can only be heard at the crown court, and I would invite you to send them there. The Crown would say that unconditional bail is suitable for the defendant."
Alanna Wesencraft, defending, agreed that Donohue could be released on bail.
Next hearing
Magistrates sent the case to Newcastle Crown Court and Donohue will next appear there on November 11. In the meantime, he was released on unconditional bail.
