Six people have appeared in court in connection with the deaths of two teenagers who died after being hit by a BMW while riding a motorbike in Newport.
Charges and Court Appearance
Jaydon Bowyer, 19, and Ta-Shay Canoville, 16, died in the crash in the Alway area of Newport in the early hours of Thursday, May 7. Police launched a murder investigation following the incident.
Two men, Terell Case, 18, and Joshua Williams, 34, were charged with murdering the two teenagers. On Monday, Case, of Sandpiper Way, Duffryn, appeared at a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court where it was revealed he was also facing a charge of perverting the course of justice.
Case is accused of this charge along with four other defendants, all from Newport: Ella Persse, 21, of Farmfields Lane; Yonis Zaid, 18, of Maesglas Avenue; Montaser Yafai, 23, of Brunel Street; and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age. All were charged with one count of perverting the course of justice.
All six defendants appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday. No pleas were entered and their cases were adjourned to Tuesday, August 11.
Family Tributes
Following the teenagers' deaths, their families issued heartfelt tributes. Ta-Shay's family said his “life touched so many hearts” and that there are "no words" to describe the pain of losing him. "From the moment he came into this world he brought love, laughter, and light into all our lives," they added. "His smile could brighten even the darkest day, and his presence made life better for everyone around him. Though his life was far too short, the impact he made will last forever."
Jaydon's family described him as “a truly adored member of the community” who brought joy wherever he went. "Jaydon was a deeply loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was also a truly adored member of the community - a young man no one ever had a bad word to say about. He touched so many lives simply by being himself," they said.
They added: "Jaydon had a way of lighting up every room he walked into, with his handsome face and that unforgettable mischievous smile. He brought warmth, laughter, and energy wherever he went."
