Second Victim Named in Dumfries and Galloway Crash

A second victim who died in a crash in Dumfries and Galloway has been named as Raymond Munro. Emergency crews rushed to the A714 between Newton Stewart and Wigtown on June 3.

Police received a report of a collision at around 9.35am near to Nether Barr. Helen Flannighan was a passenger in a Suzuki S-Cross which was involved in the smash with a Volkswagen Golf. The 65-year-old died at the scene.

Mr Munro, the driver of the car, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow following the crash. The 72-year-old died yesterday on Monday, June 15. The 43-year-old woman who was driving the Golf was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

Police Scotland extended their condolences to Helen and Raymond's loved ones. The force said they are continuing their probe into the tragic incident and urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Lindsey Tait paid tribute to both people. She said: “Our thoughts are with Raymond’s family and friends. They have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them. Our thought also remain with Helen’s family and friends. Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who saw what happened or can assist with our investigation and has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch.”

Tributes have been made across social media by all those who knew and loved Raymond. Robert Thomson said: "Poor Raymond. He was a very nice guy. He always came into the garage and I always had a wee chat with him. He will be missed."

Bob Marr Jnr said: "RIP my auld pal, you’ll be missed." Emily McClymont wrote: "Very sad news. Always enjoyed a craic. Sleep tight Goose."

Tributes previously flooded in from heartbroken loved ones of Helen. One wrote: "Aw so sad. She was so lovely. Sending thoughts and hugs to all her family." Another scribed: "God bless you Helen you will be missed by so many...sending love and prayers to all the family," while a third penned: "So sad, couldn’t have met a nicer woman!! God rest your soul Helen".

Another simply added: "Our beautiful friend. RIP beautiful lady. Thinking of all your deal family at this devastating time. God bless."
