Russell Brand's wife Laura is reportedly staying loyal to him after he was found guilty of rape and sexual assault, with sources saying her "whole world has collapsed" following the convictions.
Brand, 51, faces years in prison after being found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The entertainer was taken into custody and denied bail after the guilty verdicts at Southwark Crown Court.
Loyalty and Support
Laura, the mother of Brand's three young children, is said to be "resolutely loyal to Russell" and does not believe the allegations against him are true. Sources told The Sun that she will live at the couple's Henley-on-Thames home to be "close-by" her husband while he is imprisoned.
A friend reportedly told the outlet: "She believed what he told her and has stood by him this entire time. As his wife, her loyalty is with Russell. And he undoubtedly will need her support more than ever now. The people closest to her believe she is going to stay in the UK and wait for him. But right now, this is all incredibly fresh. It’s a living nightmare at this moment."
Devastation and Next Steps
Laura, 39, is said to be devastated by the conviction and is being supported by her family. The source added: "Laura’s whole world has collapsed. She is holding it together for the children." The source also said Laura is an "innocent party in this" and that she "has not committed any crime".
Brand and Laura married in 2017 and in 2024 relocated their family to Florida in the USA. Brand, who had denied all charges, told his wife, "I love you" when he entered the dock on Thursday. He mouthed, "I'm good, I'm good" to his defence counsel when the verdicts were being read out.
Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Following the verdict, Mr Justice Bennathan told Brand: "Sit down Mr Brand. Mr Winter, Ms Karmy-Jones, just on what happens next given the verdict on count six at least, obviously a custodial sentence of some length will result. You've been convicted of a number of offences including rape. The consequence of that is inevitably a significant custodial term. My current view is that I therefore have to remand you into custody."
Brand is thought to have been placed behind bars at Wandsworth or Belmarsh, and will be sentenced on Monday. The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that Brand is also under investigation for other allegations of rape made by two women. The force said he has already been questioned about the allegations and that the investigation "remains ongoing". Daily Star has contacted a representative of Laura for comment.
