Nick Reiner, the son of late actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, is demanding access to a $1.5 million trust fund established by his parents. The 32-year-old stands accused of murdering the couple at their home in December 2025.
Currently awaiting trial on two counts of first-degree murder, Nick has filed a petition seeking half of the trust funds, which he claims were supposed to be distributed outright when he turned 30. The remainder was to follow at age 35. However, the trustee has allegedly failed to release the funds, citing concerns about Nick's competence to manage the trust.
The petition argues that the trust terms are unambiguous and mandatory, stating: "These distributions are non-discretionary. The trust does not authorise the Trustee to condition these distribution points on any subjective assessment."
Nick intends to use the funds to re-engage prominent criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson, who withdrew from the case in January due to lack of payment. Currently represented by a public defender, Nick stresses that time is critical for his defense.
Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele, 70, died from multiple stab wounds on December 14, 2025. Nick was arrested the following day and has been held in custody. His preliminary hearing has been adjourned to September 15, 2026.
