Convicted Bosnian Serb war criminal Ratko Mladić has died in a UN prison at The Hague aged 84.
Life sentence for genocide
The general was jailed for life in 2017 for genocide and other crimes committed during the Bosnian War.
Mladić, who commanded Bosnian Serb forces, was found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. His conviction covered atrocities including the Srebrenica massacre, where thousands of Bosniak men and boys were killed.
Death in custody
He died while serving his sentence at a United Nations detention unit in The Hague. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Mladić's death brings to a close a case that drew international attention, marking the end of a legal process that saw one of the most prominent figures of the Balkan conflicts held accountable for his role in wartime crimes.
