Northumbria Police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a man in his 50s in Alnwick, Northumberland. The man's death had previously been treated as unexplained.
Man found with serious head injuries
Police were alerted to a report of concern for the welfare of an individual in Cawledge View, Alnwick, at around 8am on Saturday. The man was found with serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died on Sunday.
Police statement and next steps
In an updated statement, a Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 8am on Saturday (October 3) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a person on Cawledge View in the Alnwick area of Northumberland. Emergency services attended the scene and a man in his 50s was found with serious injuries to his head.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries but despite the efforts of medical staff he sadly died in hospital on Sunday. His next of kin are aware of his death.
“Officers initially treated the man’s death as unexplained, but following enquiries in the area there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. A report will be prepared for the coroner in due course.”
Ambulance service response
A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson said earlier: "We were called to an incident in Alnwick, Northumberland at 7:42am on Saturday 3 October. We dispatched one ambulance crew and one patient was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."
