Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman in her 30s was discovered inside stables following a fire at Higher Tunshill Farm in Milnrow, Rochdale. The blaze broke out at approximately 12:30pm on Friday 3 July, prompting a response from multiple emergency services.
Arrest and Bail
A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been released on bail pending further investigation. Police have not disclosed the relationship between the suspect and the victim, nor have they released the woman's identity pending formal identification.
Scene and Investigation
Fire crews arrived to find intense flames and dense black smoke billowing from the building. Sections of the farm remain cordoned off as forensic investigators continue to examine the scene. It is believed the derelict stables may have been undergoing renovation at the time of the fire. Witnesses reported seeing large flames and smoke spreading across the surrounding area before emergency services arrived.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 12.30pm on Friday 3 July, emergency services were called to reports of a fire at Higher Tunshill Farm, Milnrow. Sadly, emergency services discovered the body of a woman inside stables at the property. A male in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been bailed pending further investigation. A scene remains in place and enquiries are ongoing."
Ongoing Enquiries
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service declined to comment as a police investigation is underway. Police are appealing for anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward. The investigation continues.
